Warranty

Please make sure you walk your property during the inspection/walk-through period. We are having issues with the carpets in one of the rooms, and now they are saying that the warranty does not cover it, making it look like it's our fault. They will try to find excuses to not go out and fix your issues after closing.

Say No to Century Community!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

If you're considering purchasing a home from Century Communities, be prepared for significant disappointment. My recent experience with their construction has been nothing short of a nightmare.

The quality of materials used is alarmingly poorcheaper options that compromise both durability and aesthetics.

The construction work itself is subpar at best. From shoddy finishes to poor workmanship, its clear that corners were cut at every possible turn.

Issues with insulation, flooring, and fixtures have become constant headaches, and it seems that attention to detail is non-existent.

Overall, Century Communities' approach to building new homes has resulted in a substandard product that fails to meet even basic expectations for quality. I strongly advise potential buyers to look elsewhere if they value solid construction and reliable craftsmanship.

The project managers lie about quality, material, and ratings. Cabinet doors fall off in the first year.

Floors pop, stairs pop, interior doors warp, their "high quality flooring" rips in the first month. We were threatened by the area manager because we called him out on lying and failing to meet building.

The corporate backing, president, and board of directors will not respond. I'm not sure how they are still allowed to be a public-traded stock.

Felt pressure from the minute I decided to buy the house

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I felt for the "please don't delay the closing because it makes me look bad...we'll fix that after the closing" line. I got a home inspection done on July 17th and the closing was on July 30th.

I marked numerous things during the walk through. Later I realized that most things were just checked off the list and not fixed. Because they removed all the blue tape, it was hard to assess what was fixed and what wasn't until after closing...and once you close, it is too late, as they are not responsible to fix a number of things. One of those things was the range hood that was making a horrible rattling noise during the home inspection two weeks before closing.

When I reported the same rattling noise two months later in the Century Community portal, they happily referred me to Broan directly. Then I learned from Broan, that the builder didn't make any repair calls to the unit serial number and that they didn't replace the unit either (before closing). Century Communities simply checked the box as the item had been repaired, washed their hands off the problem, and left me a lemon for an appliance. Aside from that, the entire process with Century Communities felt rushed from the moment I expressed interest in one of their homes.

The salesperson was very nice, but the company policies to meet deadlines and close on the houses ASAP can only lead to unhappy customers like me. Once I realized I have been misled into believing that things were being fixed or were going to be fixed. Lesson learned...Century Communities won't ever be included in any list of builders that I would consider for a future home for several reasons: 1) 100% one-side contract benefiting the builder (my contract in GA had a clause stating that they can void the contract an keep your deposit if you complain about something and they assess that you might back out of the deal---in other words do not complain about anything). 2) rush process from beginning to end (everything is timed to the second and penalties only apply to the buyer).

3) once you close, your issues are no longer a priority---even if they were in the punch-list. At least this was my experience.

User's recommendation: Read the contract carefully and make sure you have enough time to have it reviewed by a real estate lawyer; if you feel the process is rush for your own comfort, walk away; and don't close unless 100% of your walkthrough punch-list have been addressed to your satisfaction.

Rushed shotty construction

Century Communities - Rushed shotty construction

Depending on the response to my issue will depend if this review stays up. Our first night in our new home my wife hears a crash, and it's all of our clothes on the floor underneath paint and nail.

Not just one, but both hanging sides failed. When I surveyed the damage, the rack was nailed into the drywall, not the stud. Now we have to wait the entire weekend with damaged clothes and trying to move in. Talk about a disappointing way to start home ownership.

The biggest blessing is my dog who likes to sleep in the closet wasn't hurt. That would have been another issue altogether.

Wish it could be Zero. Worst builder ever!

Updated by user May 19, 2024

The window opened after all and the water surrounding the house according to the Warranty Service agent does not have to do with the hill created by the builder but to a planned backyard that allows the water to run that way in order not to get inside the house. I still stand by my disappointment about the quality of craftmanship of these houses and the fact I should not have received a brand new house under the conditions I specified previously on my review.

Updated by user May 06, 2024

Doors were replaced and the replacement doors were also damaged. Concrete was poured at back porch and driveway, still cracks.

Brick was added underneath the back porch sliding door area but the brick is also damaged. We are finding more issues; one of the windows does not open all the way through, attic opening on the garage looks like it broke and was fixed poorly, one of the double doors to the air conditioner area does not align, the drywall put in the garage ceiling is covered with shoe footprint and holes.

The house is surrounded by water when it rains due to a hill the builder created when building new houses. Water will stay put for days.

Updated by user Jan 17, 2024

My main complaint...a new home should not have so many issues! Almost four months after moving in and they have not finished fixing all the things they messed up to begin with.

They have been fixing the issues at snail speed.

There are still many issues to be fixed in addition to new ones since my last review. Is not worth what we paid for the house!

Original review updated Dec 27, 2023
The only uniformity the Century Communities has to show is that homeowner's in other states have the same issues we have. Also, the cheap materials used, bad workmanship, lack of quality control and inefficiency of providing a new house without so many issues.

Even though the pictures show what looks like an old house, this is a brand-new home built in the summer of 2023 and purchased on September 15th, 2023. We had two walkthroughs prior to our move in date of September 29th, 2023 in addition to a home inspection paid by us. Some of the issues addressed were not fixed prior to us moving in.
Century Communities is building houses around us. We have seen how they leave the materials outside exposed to the elements.

We have seen that problem on the materials used at our home. There are red mud stains throughout the house, underneath the doors on the baseboards and specially the outdoor. It can not be cleaned. Some of the issues we have are damaged doors, damaged baseboards, old grout that cracked on both the kitchen and bathroom counters, damaged concrete on the back porch and driveway, including a crack from side to side on the back porch floor, uneven concrete floor and walls, unfinished areas, holes and nails on walls and ceiling, holes and staples on posts on the front porch area, a bulge on the wall that lead to missing a piece of carpet after the bulge was fixed, warped luxury vinyl plank floor.

Since we moved in we have continuous, non-stop issues on a weekly basis. There are so many issues and more keep popping up weekly. For a week after we moved in, we could not dry our clothes because we could not connect the dryer hose due to the fact the connector was cut uneven. After a week of trying to contact the Warranty Department with no answer, I placed a complaint on BBB and on the company's website.

I received a phone call the next day from a different Warranty Customer Service Manager and finally some of the issues were fixed.
One of the main problems is that even though the Warranty Customer Service Manager and the Division Manager have responded, they tend to justify and make excuses for the inability to provide a well-built home from the beginning. We purchased a new home so we should not have to deal with these many issues to begin with. Also, some of the repairs are sloppy and do not resolve the issue. There is a piece cut out of the ceiling on the air conditioner room that allows insulation to drop.

Instead of covering the hole properly, it was covered with foam and the issue was not resolved. Same with the concrete floor. The cracks were covered with a sealer instead of just fixing the concrete.
We have lost all credibility on this company and their employees. This was our retirement home and we have not been able to relax or enjoy it since we move in.

We live everyday expecting something bad to happen and has been a very stressful and bad experience.

Not only that, but we expected a new home, with new materials, probably a few issues but not what we have encountered. There is still a big list of repairs the Warranty Customer Service Manager has to complete, but I have no hope is going to be completed to our standards and expectations of a new home.

Do not buy from these people. They are terrible.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

1 They don't even clear the lot. They didn't disclose the water problem with the lot

2 The concrete slab was very shoddy.

Water stands in the middle of the driveway every time it rains.

3 No towel or tp racks. No medicine cabinets,no garbage disposal, no cabinet hardware.

4 Paper thin vinyl flooring that tears if you barley touch it.

5 Horrendous paint job inside and out.

We made a terrible mistake buying from these people. When we first looked at it we assumed they would finish the house. We did all the paperwork on line. We were moving from Arizona so we were not diligent enough before we bought.

On the up side.

They did make it easy to buy.

The finance folks were very responsive and easy to deal with. After we put $12000 into the house we have a nice place to live.So in a nut shell buyer beware.

I initially was scheduled to close on my home after initiating the sale in July 2020, I was given a closing date 5 times. After not being able to close my rate went up!

After a year 1/2 I closed 06/2022. Upon moving in my first experience was these: No Hot Water, Water Intrusion, Unable to exit front entrance, Grass brown for months, Black substance in toilet etc.

Warranty rep sucks at customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Natalie the warranty claims representative for this builder sucks at customer service. I had a 2054 house built in citrus springs Florida 14 months ago.

The electrical outlets all went out in the kitchen. It is not a GFI. The warranty claim was closed because she said in the claim that the warranty expired 1/13/2024. Today is 3/6/2024.

Not even 14 months!

Their warranty doesnt cover much and there is no wiggle room. This woman will talk over you and claims she knows everything about housing construction and engineering.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I am very disappointed to have even gotten involved with this builder. I purchased a home for my mother.

we closed on dec 27, 2023. When we got the house there was debris all over yard and driveway. There was mud all over driveway and front door, stairs had mud stains from boots, blind in front was broken, door off hinges in bedroom downstairs, garage door was not working, HVAC was not working and during the 17 degree weather in Houston my mother was with NO heater at the house, microwave does not work and still doesn't to this day. I have had the construction manager Jacob Gandy disappear on me, Jose Garza was complete *** and still hasn't gotten anything done.

He reads my text messages and doesn't respond, Angela Green who promised she would "handle" all this does NOT respond to text, calls or even emails. TO get someone's phone number higher up has been like pulling teeth. To this day, I cannot get anyone to return my calls or even get this stuff fixed.

It is really disappointing that my 77 yr old mother has to endure all this because they cannot do their job!!! I am still trying to get someone to call me back and no one has or even think they will

Resolved: Misinformed on contract - cancel within two weeks but builder refused to refund earnest deposit

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Oct 27, 2023

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with full refund. I went to Century Community office and able to meet with Division Director to explain our situation. We got our refund!!!.

Original review updated Oct 27, 2023
We had a horrible experience with this builder and specifically with Dawn @ Century Community. From day 1, our number 1 concern was our earnest deposit deadline and when is still safe to withdraw without any penalty.

We were misinformed on multiple occasions by the fact that Dawn never mentioned this automatic release of contingency (which is not a normal process). We even had a professional Real Estate Agent with us during our visit with Dawn, and our agent was shocked as well when we all found out. This is basically an automatic approval to give money to the seller without our consent.
Also, we made the initial deposit based on the overall color scheme, our second visit threw us off when the kitchen countertop was a different color than what was presented to us. Dawn admitted she was confused on the two colors as they were close apart, but we knew what we wanted and what given was off and this upset us, but we were willing to accept.

We cancel our purchase agreement within two weeks (what we were told was safe to withdraw regardless of reasons). However, the builder is refusing to refund our deposit and is now holding our earnest deposit hostage and cannot look for a new dream home.
We want to write this review and warn everyone about this builder and read everything in the contract since this builder will not explain anything, only want you to sign it with DocuSign (Electronic sign 200+ pages contract) as soon as possible.

We are fighting to get our hard earn deposit money back so what we can move on and look for our new home... This is our first time buying a home, and it's been a nightmare.
We were able to resolved the issue with Century Community,

Awful Customer Service and Builder

I hate to say this, but I actually feel better seeing all of the negative comments about this company. I thought my horror with them was personal...but now I see this is how they do business.

The project manager for my house should be fired!

The many things he did not inspect and left undone unacceptable. I had to fight just to get what was rightfully mine. Promises were made that were never kept! It was nightmare.

Horrible communication with the office team and the customer service manager.

The upper-leveled managers never followed up and didn't care I had issues they did nothing!

What I went through was unbearable even after providing the company a full professional report of everything that was not done. Still they couldn't fix and handle business. I was excited about my home purchase before this.

In fact the pre approval process was better than dealing with the Century's team. All I can say is they're crooks!
